Henna Painting with Artist Sidrah Afzal

At Autism Family Support, we embrace the beautiful tradition of henna painting, known as Mehndi, which holds deep cultural significance in South Asian communities. From April to July 2024, our project “Henna Painting with Artist Sidrah Afzal” brought this art form to life, combining cultural expression with supportive programming for autistic and special needs children.

Mehndi is more than an art; it’s a cultural emblem woven into celebrations like weddings, festivals, and rites of passage. With intricate designs that carry symbolic meanings, Mehndi reflects heritage, tradition, and community.

Alongside celebrating this tradition, we also focus on providing a sensory-friendly play hub for children. This space offers safe, stimulating activities tailored to their sensory needs, fostering growth and offering mothers a much-needed respite. While children explore and engage, mothers find an opportunity to relax, socialize, and connect with others on similar journeys.

Through these efforts, we aim to create a supportive community where cultural heritage and inclusivity meet. Our henna painting project and sensory play hubs reflect our commitment to celebrating diversity, fostering understanding, and empowering families on their journey with autism and special needs.
