Because sometimes the best support comes from someone who truly understands.
At Autism Family Support, we know that parenting a child with autism can feel overwhelming—especially in the beginning. The appointments, the acronyms, the emotions, the unknowns—it can feel like you’ve been dropped into a world where everyone else speaks a different language.
That’s why we created our Peer Mentorship Program—a gentle hand to hold, a listening ear, and the wisdom of someone who’s been there too.
Our Peer Mentorship Program connects families who are new to the autism journey with experienced parents who have walked a similar path. These mentors offer more than just advice—they offer understanding, reassurance, and hope.
There’s something deeply comforting in speaking with someone who just gets it—no need to explain every detail, no fear of judgment. Just real talk, real connection, and a sense of, “You’re not alone.”
Every family is paired with a trained parent mentor who understands the early days—the confusion, the worry, the sleepless nights. Mentors share:
Practical tips from their lived experience
Guidance on navigating the system (EHCPs, therapies, school meetings, etc.)
Reassurance during tough moments
A judgment-free space to simply talk
These aren’t professionals in suits—they’re parents like you, who have been through the same highs and lows.
We host regular small-group sessions and casual meet-ups where families gather to:
Discuss common challenges (sensory overload, school transitions, routines, etc.)
Share stories, successes, and strategies
Build friendships and grow community roots
Laughter, tears, cups of tea—it’s all part of the healing.
Our mentors help families access trusted local resources, such as:
Therapy services
Support groups
Inclusive schools or professionals
Navigating benefits and entitlements
Self-care for parents and carers
We help you avoid “reinventing the wheel” by pointing you toward what’s already working for others.
Sometimes, what a parent needs most is a simple, “You’re doing great.”
Our mentors are trained to offer:
Empathy without advice overload
Hope without false promises
Emotional space without pressure
This program is about walking beside you—not ahead or behind.
Because connection changes everything. When you know you’re not alone, the journey feels less heavy. When you have someone to talk to who truly understands, your confidence grows. You feel stronger, more informed, and more hopeful.
Lived Experience: Our mentors are autism parents. They get it.
Tailored to You: Whether you want a weekly chat or occasional check-ins, we meet you where you are.
Inclusive & Safe: Open to all families, from every background. Judgment-free, always.
Whether you’re:
A newly diagnosed family feeling lost
A parent facing a new challenge (school transitions, puberty, sibling stress)
Or a seasoned parent ready to give back and support others…
There’s a place for you in our Peer Mentorship community.
If you’re seeking support, or if you have experience to share and a heart to help—we’d love to hear from you.
