Autism Play Hub (April – July 2024)

From April to July 2024, the Autism Play Hub provided a vibrant, supportive space for autistic children and their families to gather, explore, and connect. Sponsored by ROCA through First Choice Homes Oldham, this initiative, organized by Autism Family Support, emphasized our commitment to fostering inclusive, sensory-friendly environments where autistic children and their families can thrive.

At Autism Family Support, we understand the importance of community and the value of sensory exploration for autistic children. This project embodied our mission by offering a safe, welcoming space with thoughtfully designed activities for children to play and connect. The Play Hub featured a variety of interactive stations that supported sensory development, creativity, and social skills. Children engaged in diverse activities, such as painting at art tables, building with soft blocks, and exploring sensory walls with textured surfaces. Calming lights and gentle sounds created a soothing environment, helping children feel at ease while encouraging exploration.

Staff members and caregivers from Autism Family Support were always present, offering support and guidance to ensure that each family felt included and comfortable. Parents found camaraderie in connecting with others who understood their experiences, building a community of shared understanding and mutual support. The Play Hub provided an uplifting atmosphere where families could relax, form bonds, and create joyful memories.

With initiatives like the Autism Play Hub, Autism Family Support remains committed to providing spaces that empower children, strengthen family connections, and promote inclusion. The Hub was more than a play area—it was a community of support, joy, and connection for all.
