Sensory Play Scheme

Sensory Play Scheme

Feb 7, 2016

Autism Family Support is proud to present the Sensory Play Scheme, a creative, supportive initiative tailored for autistic children and children with special needs. With generous support from the One Oldham Fund by Action Together, this free program ran from August 4 to October 20, offering a safe, engaging space to help children build their sensory processing skills.

Our Program:

The Sensory Play Scheme focused on activities designed to stimulate development and social skills. Highlights included:

  • Sand Play
  • Slime and Play-dough
  • Rice Play
  • Messy Paint
  • Freedom Art

These activities promote creativity, motor skills, and self-expression. Rhymes and singing sessions added language development and social interaction in a fun, welcoming setting.

The Sensory Play Hub:

Our sensory play hub provided a supportive and inclusive environment filled with high-quality materials—kinetic sand, rice, play foam, and more—to give children diverse sensory experiences. Specialized furniture, visual aids, and a child-friendly setup ensured an inviting space where each child could explore and grow.

Impact and Community:

The Sensory Play Scheme is more than a program—it’s a resource that supports families and helps reduce social isolation. Through creative play, children are building valuable skills for lifelong growth and independence.
